Please see a note from Mrs. Sterling, our lower school counselor, about a fun opportunity for the girls this year.

We had such a productive and fun week! ERBs were quick and the girls handled them so well. On Wednesday, we wrapped up Unit 1 in math with a rounding scavenger hunt around lower school(see pictures). Graded math quizzes were sent home today in their Friday Folder. The girls did so well! Click here for the Unit 2 Home Links to see what is ahead in math!

3 Word Thursday or 3WT continues to be a big hit in here. Ask your daughter to tell you more about the details to this assignment. Here is a peek into this week's words!

We are plugging away with our current novel, James and the Giant Peach The vocabulary and voices of the different characters have been so fun to read! And the similes and metaphors are endless!

Week 3

Writing Lab #1- expository writing. The girls wrote in a first person point of view to describe themselves. The focus this week was to write complex descriptive sentences, paying attention to punctuation. I loved seeing their personality shine through their writing.

The girls completed their first History4Fourthies assignment. Over the next several weeks, we will continue to learn about the US government.

We finished reading The 100 Dresses and the girls became fashion designers as they designed their own dress inspired by the book. I have some very impressive artists! Check out the pictures!

  REMINDERS:

*Sadie is a carpool helper next week.

* Picture Day is on Wednesday morning for our class. It is a non-P.E. day. Hooray!

Question:

Where would you go on the blog to find when your special week begins?

Week 2

The girls continue to have a blast exploring new digital resources we will use throughout the year. Pixton in particular has been a hit. The girls had a chance to create their first comic strip on there this week. We will use this fun site for various things! We also logged into Gimkit to practice our math facts in an exciting way. Ask your daughters to tell you more!

This week in math, we kicked off our first math unit. Unit 1 is all about numbers to a million. We started off this week by reading and writing these numbers and talked a lot about place value.

Our first read aloud is The Hundred Dresses by Eleanor Estes. This book  deals with mean girl behavior and has led to some wonderful class discussions.

Hi girls! How many helpful links do I have on my blog? Hint: look on the right side:)

*Reminders:

Carpool helper for next week is Kit. Please arrive at 7:35.

Week 1

With week one under our belts, we are feeling settled in our routine. I can tell everyone is feeling more comfortable with new classmates and a new classroom. I’ve had so much fun getting to know this sweet, creative, and lively bunch. We’ve learned about a few special fourthie jobs this week! Each week, one fourthie from each class will begin the day by leading the pledge of allegiance to the lower school and raising the flag.

I will update this class blog each week with important reminders and curriculum updates. There are helpful links on the side of the page as well as pages with information along the top. One of the pages explains what it means to be a carpool helper. This is another leadership opportunity this year. Click here to learn more and sign your daughter up. We will begin carpool helpers the week of September 12th.
