Weekly Update

Creating My Own Sunshine

During our technology time, the girls started something new this week. For three classes, half of the class is talking with Mrs. Sterling about the transition to Middle School, while the other half does a robotics unit with Ms. Hamilton-Dixon. After three classes, they switch to complete the other group. This is a great opportunity for the girls to learn about the Middle School in a small group. The group that began robotics this week returned to me squealing with excitement about programing their robot. <3

On Tuesday, the girls will have their last Growing Up Healthy class with Nurse Blanton. I hope you've had great conversations with your daughter the past few weeks. These hilarious girls have brought much entertainment after each class.

Mrs. Ivens shared audio files of different songs from the 4th grade musical. I've attached a link under the "helpful link" section of our blog for easy access. I also showed the girls today how to get to it. I have no doubt they will begin practicing as soon as possible. :)

Weekly Update

We've got spirit, yes we do!

Many important things came home today. Please check your daughter's backpack for her Friday Folder. In there you will find a fraction quiz, quizzes on regions and the most recent spelling and Wordly Wise work. We've been very busy the last two weeks. These girls have done a fabulous job of remembering capitals and states in the NE and SE regions. We have spent a lot of time in class practicing studying skills and sharing creative ways to remember each state and capital. Your daughters are SO clever.

Here is the communication previously sent from Middle School about choosing a World Language for next year. Please note the March 29th deadline.

After Spring Break, we began reading Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. This is one of my favorite reads. Throughout the book we are focusing on three big words: respect, persevere and empathy. These 3 words are woven through the entire story and the girls have made so many great connections so far.

Next week, we will add and subtract fractions with common and uncommon denominators. We will also continue to review converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and simplifying fractions.

Weekly Update

M02 was filled with love Tuesday morning as the girls reunited after the break.

We continued to spread the love on Wednesday! Julia Mattingly, from Celebate RVA!, joined the Fourthies to conclude our latest Outreach project. The girls worked hard to stuff birthday bags full of the supplies Lower School collected before Spring Break. It was such a rewarding project to watch from beginning to end. Check out pictures here!

In P.E. next week the girls will begin a bike unit. Please help your daughter remember to bring a helmet to school on Monday. It will stay at school until the unit is over.

In math, we wrapped up the first fraction unit talking about improper fractions and mixed numbers. Ask your daughter to tell you the difference between proper and improper fractions:)

Weekly Update

I hope your Spring Break is full of fun and relaxation! I look forward to hearing all about the week when the girls return on Tuesday. The girls learned today the title of the 4th grade musical. A LOT of excitement in room M02! Mrs. Ivens also explained the importance of keeping this a secret (even from siblings). This is part of a big tradition at our school. The title will be revealed once they perform the musical for the senior class.

As mentioned in our letter sent home in October about book clubs, they conclude at spring break. This will allow for more classroom time as the spring schedule gets busier with our fourth-grade musical and Grandparents' Day. Each class will continue reading instruction within their regular class.

  • Carpool helper after break: Sally
  • Future dates:
    • Gold/White Cheer Rally Practices from 7:40 - 8:00 on 3/16, 3/21, and 3/23
    • March 24th: Gold/White Cheer Rally
    • April 13: Fourth Grade Field Trip to DC - We will arrive back after dismissal so please plan to pick up your daughter at 4:15. More details to come.
    • April 28: Grandparents' Day
